Witzig Films

Just posting this in case anyone is looking for any of these classics. The Longboard Grotto does get them, but they may be getting low. You can always buy them from the Witzig Gallery. Be persistent if you are contacting them via email.

This Saturday at Igloo store

Remember Green Lady? Into Hunter Gatherer? Gary Benzel is one of the creatives behind both of these great endeavors. He's also just a really good guy. Gary runs the Igloo store and has his design office upstairs. Interesting shop and always a good party. Also, check out Subtext just a few doors down.

Surf Cordless Go To Jail?

Okay, so that's a bit of an overstatement, but wow! Pretty ridiculous.

Funny Title. Solid Movie.

I'm sure many of you have seen this one. Every once in a while the bargain racks at Longboard Grotto have some decent finds. Picked this one up the other day; hadn't seen it in a long time. The video rental store I went to as a youngster (Video Library or Major Video, something like that) always had a few surf movies tucked away in the Sports section. Although it was the mid 80's they only stocked Endless Summer and a few 70's era gems like Super Session, A Sea for Yourself, and of course Tubular Swells. My friend and I just laughed at the title but rented it anyway based on some of the images from the cover (the current cover is a re-design). Turns out we were into it, and this Hoole/McCoy feature still holds up today. While there are a lot of films from the era with similar footage, this one is just dripping with 70's goodness and an incredibly classic soundtrack to tie it all together. Add the featurette, A Day in the Life of Wayne Lynch, and you have a pretty solid offering.

Post Numero Uno. Toby Numero Uno.

Starting with one from the days of more hair, I recently came across this picture from June 1990. This was the first custom Rich Pavel made me. It was an unreal surfboard. Big for a lot of people, but incredible for down-the-line sessions with the canard quad setup. Lots of fun Cliffs days and one very memorable dawn insertion at Malibu later that summer (smallish, but very fun). I was pretty blown away after my first session on this and can still remember the exact moment on the fourth or fifth wave when it all clicked. With all of the Pavel craze it's nice to recall walking in, ordering and seeing your board made that same day. My current order has been some serious tooth and nail action! I'll definitely post the outcome when it actually does happen. Yeah, I know.
